nota bene

Inspired by my favorite food blog’s “tuesday things,” tonight I thought I’d share a few little things that are rattling around in my brain.

1. S. and I let the wine go to our heads last night, and as a result, we’ve been lounging around our apartment most of the evening. Last week I read this New Yorker article about worldwide hangover remedies and the possible biochemical explanations for why they work (if they do), and I can’t stop thinking about it. It was the old “hair of the dog” remedy I was thinking about when I ordered a mimosa at brunch. Ask me if it worked. Yeah… Not. So. Much.

2. While we’re on the subject, I love the New Yorker. I just do. I’ve been subscribing on and off for more than a decade. I’m off right now because I recently found out that the mag has a 26-year-old managing editor (or 28 now, I guess), which just sticks in my craw after all the lip service I’ve heard in journalism about “paying your dues.” Anyway, I have said I am going to the New Yorker Festival every year for 12 years, but something always came up. This year, though, I’M GOING! My ticket arrived yesterday. Yay!

3. These are what I’m daydreaming about. But I’m tired (see no. 1) and I’m making these instead.

4. Friday Night Lights = physical addiction. Thank you streaming Netflix! I’m off to get my fix. Good night, my sweets!

UPDATE 9/18/11 – One more thing, Kentucky needs a Super Bowl commercial, don’t you think? See the pitch here. It’s cute.
